Letha Mae Striplin of Picher passed away from this life to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2007, at Saint John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., surrounded by her family. She fought a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. She was 87 years of age at her passing.
She was born on March 3, 1919, to Frank and Dorothy (Ogburn) Forshey in Joplin. She was saved and baptized at the age of 12 at Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin. In 1933, she married Robert Monroe Hopkins and they had four children. They were lifelong residents of Treece, Kan., and Picher. She later married Noah Striplin and both are deceased. She is also preceded in death by one granddaughter, Natalie Neel, and two sons-in-law, Zip Davis and Dick Neel.
She was a devoted person, always loving, caring and giving. She was also a wonderful mother and grandmother that will be missed dearly by family and friends. She was always willing to help anyone in need.
She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Davis of Cardin, and Cynthia “Cindy” Dawes and husband, Rick, of Miami; two sons, Robert Hopkins and wife, Ruth, of Springfield, Mo., and Danny Hopkins and wife, Sandra, of Baxter Springs, Kan.; one sister, Ruby Napier; five nieces and one nephew; a special friend of many years, Eleanor Peace of Baxter Springs, and a host of many friends she dearly loved. She had 12 grandchildren, Becky Wright, Cheryl Crawford, Donnie Davis, Lisa Saenz, Tina Rush, Bob Hopkins Jr., Sherrie Bray, Michael Hopkins, Stephanie Hopkins, Eric Hopkins, Keith Neel and Ryan Neel; 18 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Cardin Baptist Church on Friday, March, 2, 2007, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Joe Don Olds will officiate. The family will have visitation Thursday, March 1, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami. She will be laid to rest at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. Pallbearers will be grandsons Keith Neel, Ryan Neel, Donnie Davis, Eric Hopkins, Bob Hopkins Jr. and Michael Hopkins. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons Nate Neel, Zach Saenz, Matt Saenz, Jeremy Crawford, Josh Crawford, Justin Hopkins, James Bray, Stephen Moody.
The family will be at the home of Cindy Dawes, 1321 Oak Lane, Miami.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Miami.
