Kathleen Marie Schertz, a longtime Miami resident passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Kathleen was born on January 7, 1945 in Bardstown, Kentucky to Patrick Anthony and Lila Frances (Linder) Fitzgibbon. She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family. She married Carl Schertz on June 3, 1966. Kathleen was preceded in passing by her parents Patrick and Lila Fitzgibbon, her brothers Pat Fitzgibbon, Michael Fitzgibbon and Mark Fitzgibbon along with her sisters Nancy Waggoner and Lila Scott.
Those that will be sharing Kathleen’s Memory will be her husband Carl Schertz of the home, her children Joey Schertz and his wife Shanda and their daughter Emily of Miami, Dusty Schertz and his wife Amber and their children Kathleen and Tucker of Fairland, Carrie Heyburn and her husband James with their sons Michael and Zachery of Miami, Mandy Bertalotto and her husband Daniel and their children Mary Kate, Caroline and Jack of Fayetteville and Christy Schertz and her son Elijah of Miami. Other survivors include her brothers and sisters Joe Fitzgibbon and his wife Pearl Ann of Edmond, John Fitzgibbon and his wife Debbie of Springfield, Missouri, Terry Fitzgibbon of Tulsa, Dennis Fitzgibbon and his wife Heather of Grove, Mary Jane James of Webb City, Noreen Pendergraft of Webb City and Ann Roblyer and her husband John of Miami.
There will be a Vigil Service at 6:00 PM Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miami. Visitation will take place afterward from 6:30 PM until 8:00 PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM on Friday, July 5, 2019 also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Carl Kerkemeyer officiating. Interment will follow at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
Pallbearers will be Kathleen’s Grandchildren, Emily Schertz, Kathleen Schertz, Tucker Schertz, Michael Heyburn, Zachery Heyburn, Mary Kate Bertalotto, Caroline Bertalotto, Jack Bertalotto and Elijah Schertz.
