QUAPAW - A motorcyclist was listed in stable condition after being thrown 27 feet from a county road six miles east of Quapaw on Saturday , the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
James Wood, 50, of Quapaw was transported by Eagle Med to Freeman Health Care Systems in Joplin, Mo., for treatment of head, trunk, arm and leg injuries, Trooper J.R. Parker wrote.
The accident occurred on county road 670 around 2:50 p.m. when the 1977 Honda motorcycle, for an unknown reason, according to the OHP report, went off right side of the road and overturned.
The trooper noted that Wood wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Helmets are not mandatory in the State of Oklahoma.
