Republican precinct elections will be held throughout Oklahoma on Tuesday.
The caucus events offer all registered Republicans an opportunity to participate in a process which allows voting party members to make policy decisions, select candidates and elect party officials.
Scott Trussler, chairman of the Ottawa County Democratic Party, said Wednesday that precinct caucus events mark the official beginning of the 2008 presidential election.
“All registered voters are encouraged to attend,” Trussler said.
Tuesday's gathering of area Republicans will be the first step in electing delegates to the state Republican convention slated for April 14 in Oklahoma City.
Participation in the precinct election of delegates is necessary in order to participate in county- and state-level caucus events, according to Trussler.
In Ottawa County, precinct elections will be held at 7 p.m. at the Miami Civic Center.
In Delaware County, Republican Party Chairman Norma Halterman is currently seeking locations for precinct meetings.
Any registered Republican who resides in Delaware County should contact Halterman at 918-786-5374.
