A 93-year old Welch man was taken be air ambulance to a Joplin, Mo., hospital Monday after his vehicle hit a piece of road equipment on a county road in Ottawa County.

Samuel Jorgenson was taken to Saint Johns hospital with head injuries and reported in stable condition after striking a 2002 Caterpillar road grader with his 2008 Chevrolet Malibu.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Jorgenson's vehicle hit a grader driven by Robbie Robinson on a rural road about six miles outside of Miami.

Robinson, 55, of Miami, told trooper Caleb Cole that he was grading the road, with flashers on, when he saw Jorgenson coming. He then stopped his westward travel.

Jorgenson continued his approach from the east and hit the front of the grader.

Robinson was not wearing a seatbelt.
