A Fairland businessman is dead after his home was invaded early Tuesday morning.

The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the Sam and Lillian Sanders residence at 4:38 a.m., according to authorities.

Upon arrival, deputies found Sam Sanders, 64, shot to death.

Lillian Sanders, 64, was found tied to a chair and beaten, said Jessica Brown, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation.

The couple’s grandson, 20, and granddaughter who is in her teens, were also in the home but were not injured.

The grandson called 911, Brown said. The names of the grandchildren were not released.

Brown said five OSBI agents are working on the case but have developed few leads.

“We believe robbery, probably, was the motive, but we don't know that for certain,” said Brown.

The only description of the intruders was that they are men and possibly white.

Brown said there was no indication the break-in was related to a robbery Thursday in which two men entered the residence of Ron and Brenda Stockwell, east of Miami, and held Brenda Stockwell and her grandchildren, ages 2 and 5, hostage while their home was robbed of an undisclosed amount of case.

Authorities are still searching for two black males in connection with the Stockwell home invasion.
