Four area residents were arrested during a Monday afternoon sting operation conducted by drug enforcement officers with the Miami Police Department and Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.
Nila Rena Reynolds, 50, and her daughter, Chasity Lynn Bradbury, 29, were arrested for selling marijuana to informants on two separate occasions earlier in the day.
According to police reports, authorities followed the informant to a location prearranged by Bradbury and the informant.
“At approximately 1:40 p.m., (the informant) parked his vehicle,” Officer Todd Hicks said. “At approximately 1:41 p.m., I watched Chasity walk from the direction of her apartment to the informant's vehicle and get inside the vehicle.”
Hicks said Bradbury was inside the vehicle for approximately two minutes when she got out and walked back to her apartment.
Detectives determined that the informant had purchased a quarter ounce of marijuana from Bradbury and made arrangements to purchase more later in the day.
“Chasity told (the informant) that her mother had two ounces of marijuana she would sell for $200 when her mother returned home,” Hicks said.
At approximately 3:54 p.m., the informant went to the apartment occupied by Reynolds and Bradbury.
Using money given to him by drug task force officers, the informant purchased two ounces of marijuana from Reynolds.
Authorities approached the apartment minutes later.
“As I approached the front door, I started to smell a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the apartment,” Hicks said. “I observed that the front room was very small and there was two small children and eight adults in the front room.”
After speaking with the occupants of the apartment, authorities arrested Reynolds and Bradbury for distributing marijuana.
Authorities also arrested Jonathan Joseph Manning, 19, of Miami, and James Riley Fanning, 33, of Fairland. Both face charges of possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
