JAY - Two Miami men were transported to area hospitals after the vehicle they were in struck a culvert and went airborne around noon Wednesday on Oklahoma Highway 28, nine miles west of Jay, the OHP confirmed.

The driver of a 1988 Chevrolet pickup, Charles L. Moats, 24, was transported via Jay EMS to Integris Grove General Hospital where he was treated for leg injuries and later released, Trooper Heath Linn reported.

A passenger, Bobby E. Hopper, 34, was transported by Air Evac to Freeman Health Care System in Joplin, Mo. He was admitted with head injuries and listed in good condition, Linn said.

The OHP report indicated that the pickup was traveling eastbound when it departed the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert and went airborne for 60 feet. The pickup came to rest 194 feet from the point of impact, according to Linn's report.

The trooper noted that the driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the passenger was not.
