Authorities spent Friday searching for a 25-year-old Miami man accused of raping a juvenile girl.
A warrant was issued Friday morning for the arrest of Christopher J. Dornan after charges were filed in Ottawa County alleging first-degree rape.
According to a police report, authorities were called to Integris Baptist Regional Health Center on Thursday where the victim was undergoing a rape examination.
The victim's mother said she found her daughter in the bathroom crying Thursday. When she questioned her, the girl accused Dornan of rape, according to the police report.
“(The mother) said in recent weeks she had found notes written to her daughter by Dornan," said Detective Glen Johnston.
According to a survey conducted by Oklahoma's Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (OCADVSA), over 12,000 Oklahoma women are affected by sexual violence each year - over half of them are under 18 years of age.
A random survey of Oklahoma women in 2006 revealed that 31 percent of women reported they had been raped or sexually assaulted in their lifetime; 1.2 percent had been raped or sexually assaulted in the past year. Three-fourths of these women were less than 18 years of age when the first incident occurred.
Assailants were intimate partners, relatives, acquaintances or friends and other persons known to the victim.
Only eight percent of assailants were strangers to the victim.
