Closures on streets that cross Steve Owens Boulevard will start Monday as the City of Miami launches Phase II of a plan to improve one of the city's busies intersections.

The plan, an $800,000 project that combines the efforts of multiple agencies, is funded with federal and state dollars, according to Jerry Ruse, city engineer.

Phase I of the project - a traffic signal upgrade and railroad crossing improvements - was completed in October of 2005.

The second phase calls for the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Steve Owens Boulevard and the Truck Route and will include widening of the road to accommodate vehicular traffic.

The following streets and alleys will be closed to through traffic starting Monday and will remain closed for an estimated four weeks.
