The executive director of the Grand Lake Area Chamber of Commerce announced Tuesday that she has accepted the position of chamber director in Miami.

Cindy Morris submitted her resignation on Jan. 4 to the board of directors in the Langley office, announcing that she will officially become the executive director of the Miami Area Chamber of Commerce on Feb. 4.

“Many people are asking why I am leaving the Grand Lake Area Chamber,” Morris said. “It is the simple fact that the opportunities available at Miami are much greater for me at this time. I also have learned more about myself … mainly, that I miss the quality of life and conveniences of city living. Miami will fulfill both of these needs for me.”

In Miami, past chamber president Jennifer Hessee has been filling in as the executive director since the resignation of Suzanne Hubbard late in 2007.

Morris, who has served the Grand Lake Area Chamber of Commerce since June of 2007, previously served as the president of the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce and the Table Rock Lake Area Chamber in Missouri.

Miami chamber officials have confirmed Morris' hiring. An official announcement is expected today.

In a release issued by the Grand Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Morris indicated that she will spend the remainder of her stay in Langley upgrading the member database and putting final touches on upcoming events.

“I will forever be indebted to the Grand Lake Area Chamber of Commerce,” Morris said. “I was able to come home to Oklahoma and have enjoyed reconnecting with people around the lake. I believe that I was able to bring strong financial management skills, as well as planning skills to the chamber.”
