Dorothy Leonard, 91, a longtime Miami Resident passed away peacefully at Mercy Hospital, in Joplin, Monday Morning, August 24, 2020. 

She was born December 1, 1928 to Ralph and Ruth (Richie) Bivins in Bedford, Indiana.  Dorothy graduated with the Class of 1946 from Afton High School before going to work at B.F. Goodrich.   After starting her family, she returned to work in the Miami High School library and went on to establish, organize and manage the libraries in all the Elementary Schools.   Later, she earned a nursing degree at N.E. O.  A&M College and became an RN.  After working in hospitals in Joplin and Miami, she went on to co-found and co-own Green Country Home Health Care.

 Dorothy was preceded in passing by her parents, two brothers and her son Steve Leonard.    

Dorothy was a resident at Nine Tribes Tower for 24 years and served on the Miami Housing Authority Board for over 20 Years.  She was a devout Christian and a member of the Christian Church.  She loved her family and her many friends. 

Those that will carry on her memory will be her sons Jim Leonard of Atlanta and Jerry Leonard and his wife Charlotte of Miami, her daughter–in-law Cindy Leonard of Miami, her 9 grandchildren, 12 great – grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her many beloved friends.
