MIAMI — A woman has been transported to a Joplin hospital following a shooting at 114 J NW in Miami Saturday afternoon.

Miami Police Chief Thomas Anderson said officers from the Miami Police Department had responded to a domestic disturbance call earlier in the day at the address.

“They thought they had it worked out, but got a call later that there had been a shooting,” he said.

Reports indicate that Wesley Tanner, 23, shot his girlfriend Saturday afternoon then fled the scene.

Following a pursuit, Anderson said Tanner was apprehended south of Fairland on State Highway 125 with the assistance of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Anderson said the female was taken to Integris Miami Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds then airlifted to Freeman Hospital in Joplin.

Authorities have not released her name or condition of the victim.

Anderson said the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation would be contacted.
