Dr. Lonnie Gene Jay, DVM, 73, a long-time resident of Miami, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on May 22 2020, after a brief illness. He will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Loa Mae Jay, and sister, Sheila Rowe, and nephew, Gabriel. He grew up in Elk City, Oklahoma, on his parents' farm where his early love for animals began. A graduate of both Merritt High School and Southwestern State University, he pursued his dream by moving to Stillwater, OK, where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. He and his business partner, Dr. Roger Parker, owned and operated the Veterinary Clinic in Miami. Dr. Jay was loved by both humans and all the animals who received his loving veterinarian care. His practice, his home, his land, and his many, many plants filled Lonnie's heart and soul with love and satisfaction of a job well done. He loved his family, sports, exercise and anything related to Oklahoma State University athletics (which were sure to make Lonnie stop, watch and cheer for his beloved Cowboys). GO POKES!
Lonnie is survived by his sisters, Pat Higgins and Nan Coy (Mike) and brothers, Olin Jay (Sherry) and Dean Jay (Jean), and several nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be held at the Brown-Winters Funeral Home on Friday, May 29, 2020, from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Services have been placed in the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.
