Diana “Dena” Ander an amazing 104 year old business woman passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2020 in Joplin, Missouri. Dena was born April 23, 1915 in Joplin, Missouri. Her dad Joe Ander was born in Poland, when they came to this country they settled in Joplin. Joe brought their family shoe business to Miami to grow into a successful Ander’s Shoe Store which was a Miami mainstay for eighty-nine years. Dena became her father’s business partner in 1951, which is when the first remodeling of the building took place. Her dad Joe passed away in 1968. Since then Dena has carried on the family business. Dena was the only member of the family to remain in Miami. As a youngster she played tennis, basketball, baseball and golf. During her time here in Miami Dena was a great ambassador for our community. She was a member of the Pilot Club, served on the Miami Savings and Loan Board, enjoyed the birthday club and was a staple at the McDonalds Country Club coffee group. Dena’s parents preceded her in passing, her sisters Lena Stevens, Tillie Carr, her brother Albert Ander.

Survivors include her nieces, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Dena is also survived by her loving employees who were her family and her many friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2020 at First Christian Church Chapel in Miami with Minister Leon Weece and Alan Whipman, a senior member, from the Joplin Jewish Synagogue, officiating. Interment will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society or the Miami Animal Shelter
