Bill Ankenman, retired rancher, passed away November 18, 2019. Bill was born on October 29, 1933 to Leigh and Helen (Coldiron) Ankenman in Crawford, Colorado.
Bill married Betty Lou Barsch on August 1, 1953 and they enjoyed sixty-six wonderful years together. Bill is survived by his wife Betty Lou and daughter, Carol Coiner. Other survivors are daughter in law Sandy Ankenman and granddaughters Autumn Fuhrman, Lacey Ankenman and Abbey Ankenman. Bill was preceded in death by his son Chris Ankenman.
After Bill’s family and many friends, his passion was cattle ranching. He was never in an environment he was not interested in cattle, hay, water, or something about the cattle industry. Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Miami, Oklahoma, where he had served on the session. Bill had also been a science teacher and held a master’s degree from Western Colorado University. Bill was instrumental in the American Tarentaise Association and developing and promoting the Tarentaise cattle breed in the United States. Bill served as the past president of the Ottawa County Rural Water District No. 4. He was also a 4-H Club leader in Colorado.
A Celebration of Life for Bill will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church in Miami, Oklahoma. Pastor Ray VandeGiessen will officiate.
