Mary Doris Orcutt Payton Brewer of Miami, Oklahoma passed from this life Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Integris Miami Hospital surrounded by her family. She was 85.
Mary was born May 4, 1934 in Borger, Texas to Vernon and Lucille (Haughn) Orcutt. Her first marriage to Fred L. Payton of 21 years ended in divorce. She then married Captain Kenneth H. Brewer, he preceded her in death in 1989. She is also preceded in death by her parents, a brother Vernon (VJ) Orcutt and one son Steve (Pesos) Payton.
Mary was a former Wal-Mart employee here in Miami working in the Lawn and Garden Center. Known there as “the cake lady” as she loved cooking and baking for her fellow employees. She enjoyed traveling with her husband Kenneth (Kenny) in their motor home, traveling to Oregon, the West Coast and especially Montana where they enjoyed trout fishing. Mary was also an avid local fisherman. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable gardens as well. She was an avid animal lover, raising and rescuing many animals in her lifetime. In her younger days she was even known to drive her race car around the track more than a few times.
Mary leaves behind two daughters and their husbands, Tammy and Jim Conner of Miami, Halene Mate and her husband Jim of rural Miami, two sons Tom Payton and his wife Shirley of rural Miami and Rick Payton of Webb City, Mo, two sisters Dora Bailey of Dundee, Oregon, Kay Hazen and her husband Charley of Naselle, Washington, also two special cousins Doval and Jerry Orcutt both of Miami, Oklahoma, 10 grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren and one great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, Oklahoma. Rev. Kay Snowden and Rev. Kevin Bass officiated. Interment was at the Baxter Springs Cemetery in Baxter Springs, Kansas. Mike Payton, Brent Mate, Tyler Tinsley, Jordan Mate, Justin Laue and Corey Payton served as pallbearers.
