FAIRLAND — Authorities have released the name of the man who drowned early Sunday, March 31 in the Neosho River.
The body of Blake Austin Williams, 31, of Fairland, was recovered at approximately 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning near the Conner's Bridge boat ramp, located on 590 Road North of Fairland.
According to a report from the Grand River Dam Authority Police, at approximately 2:36 a.m. Sunday morning, Josie Stovall, 27, was driving a Dodge truck, which went down the ramp and into the water.
Williams entered the water to rescue Stovall. Both were struggling in the cold water.
He successfully got her back to shore with the help of other bystanders.
Williams was unable to get out of the water and drowned.
His body was recovered about 20 feet downstream from the ramp, according to GRDA spokesman Justin Alberty.
Stovall was transported to Integris Miami Hospital.
She was arrested by GRDA Police for driving under the influence and booked into the Ottawa County Jail.
Ottawa County Sheriff's Office deputies and the Quapaw Nation Fire and EMS assisted on the call.
The GRDA report said police continue to investigate the incident.
