Longtime Welch, Okla. cattleman, Billy Mack McAffrey, 88, passed away August 29, 2018 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born August 15, 1930 in Welch to Roscoe and Florence (Davis) McAffrey. He proudly served three and ½ years with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
On December 25, 1951, Bill married the love of his life, Margie Schultz, in Chetopa, Kan. He worked for B.F. Goodrich in Miami, retiring after 31 and ½ years. With a love for agriculture, he spent his time working cattle. His greatest enjoyment came from attending his grandkids and great-grandkids ballgames alongside Margie.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David and Billy Joe; and one daughter, Gail Denise.
He is survived by Margie, his loving wife of 67 years; one daughter, Terrie Snodderly and husband Jim, of Bluejacket; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bob McAffrey of Killeen, Texas; one sister, Betty Parker of Grove; and a host of friends.
There will be a visitation for family and friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Welch.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the Welch Christian Church. Pastor Dan Weiser will officiate. Serving as casket bearers will be Chad McAffrey, Brandon McAffrey, Larry Able, Leon Vail, Calvin Riley, and Brian Mooney. Honorary casket bearers will be Will Rife, Adam Thompson, Colt Thompson, and Keith Phillips.
Bill will be laid to rest in the Welch Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #147, Veteran’s Funeral Detail.
