Jerry W. Chandler, a seventy-one year old longtime Afton resident passed away at home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on May 26, 1946 in Commerce to Abe and Agnes (Hogan) Chandler. He attended Afton Public Schools before joining the United States Army. August 9, 1969 He married the love of his life Lana Schuman at Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Jerry and Lana attended First Christian Church in Afton where Jerry was proud to have served as a Deacon. Mr. Chandler was a successful businessman, but, made time and enjoyed giving back to his community. He served on the Afton Fire Department until his retirement and he served on the Afton School Board. Jerry was a very active member of the Afton Masonic Lodge, Vinita Masonic Lodge #5, the Adkar Shrine, the Tulsa Scottish Rite, Craig County Shrine Club where he was a past president and Grand Lake Shrine Club. Mr. Chandler loved his grandchildren, he was their biggest fan in whatever they were involved in, his infectious smile and great personality made him all of their friends biggest fans too. Jerry was preceded in passing by his parents Abe and Agnes, and his brothers and sisters JC Chandler, Geneva Miller, Mary Foren, Preston Chandler, Alton “Red” Chandler, Gloria Bassett, Dwayne Chandler and Rhonda Hilton.
Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years Lana Chandler of the home, his children Jerry “Goose” Wayne Chandler Jr. of Commerce and Kristy Chandler of Afton, his siblings Nora Greenfeather of Afton, Jaunita Woolever of Joplin, Mo., Carolyn Mercer of Miami and Gary Chandler of Miami, along with his grandchildren Bryar Chandler, Brecklyn Chandler and Trey “Bullet” Martin.
There will be a Celebration of Jerry’s Life 2 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018 at First Christian Church in Miami with Pastor Leon Weece officiating. Masonic Rites will be provided. Interment will follow at the Sixkiller Cemetery in Afton. There will be Military Honors provided by American Legion Post 147 Honors Team. Services are under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Afton.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Craig County Shrine Club.
