Thurman James “Jim” Greenfeather, age 77 of Miami, passed away at Freeman West Hospital at 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 following an illness.

Jim was born in Quapaw, Okla. on March 4, 1941 to the union of James Isaac Greenfeather and Estiline Jaunita (Kist) Greenfeather. He attended the Chilocco Indian School in Arkansas City, Kan.

Jim served his country in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. He had lived in Northeast Oklahoma for most of his adult life where he worked as a housing inspector for the Quapaw Tribe. He was the President of the Quapaw Gourd Club, and was also a professional bull rider.

He was united in marriage with Roberta JoAnn Olsen on February 15, 1990 in Miami, Okla. She survives.

Additional survivors include 12 children, Victor Greenfeather of Miami, Woddy Greenfeather of Grove, Okla., Jason Dollarhide of Miami, Paul Dollarhide of Quapaw, P.J. Attocknie of Quapaw, Steven Daugherty of Quapaw, Michael Daugherty of Neosho, Mo., David Sappington of Quapaw, Jeff Sappington of Quapaw, Terry Sappington of Quapaw, Sally Sappington Quapaw, and Suzie Sappington of Quapaw; one half-brother, Rusty Greenfeather of Quapaw; several grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Greenfeather; his mother, Estiline Greenfeather; and many cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. at the Quapaw Longhouse on Saturday, March 24, 2018. Pastors Steven Daugherty and Geoff Buffalo will officiate. Pallbearers will be Tom Stelle, Keith Attocknie, Jacob Dollarhide, Dakota Greenfeather, Damian Blackfox, and James Snyder, and honorary pallbearers Ron Burkybile, Henry Ellick, Robert Dushaine, Don Greenfeather, Carl Greenfeather. Traditional Indian Burial Rites performed by his nephew Jeremy Olsen will follow at the Peoria Tribal Cemetery.
