The Boys and Girls of Ottawa County is taking orders for hand-dipped chocolate strawberries for Valentine's Day to raise funds to support the local center.

MIAMI – The Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa County has embarked on a sweetly different fundraising campaign just in time for Cupid season.

Community members are being invited to purchase boxes of hand-dipped chocolate covered strawberries to enjoy, gift, or share this Valentine's Day.

"The Club has been looking for some new opportunities to raise local dollars," said Mackenzie Garst, executive director of the Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa County. "We decided that there are lots of other fundraisers around Christmas time, Thanksgiving, and summertime, so we wanted to come up with a unique idea."

Garst said the focus was to create something different that people would enjoy and could raise money for the Club. After some research, the Club staff decided to focus their fundraiser on Valentine's Day.

"It's just going to be a really organic, in-house fundraiser. We're going to dip the strawberries at the Club to sell to the community," said Garst. "It's going to be a team effort to make it happen. We're purchasing the strawberries and the chocolate and the boxes and all of that."

Since all of the purchases and work will be done through the Club, Garst said they are trying to collect as many-pre-orders as possible to help determine costs and amounts needed.

"We want everyone to know that every dollar they spend at the Boys and Girls Club stays here locally and so we also wanted to make our fundraiser a local level initiative," said Garst.

Orders can be made by stopping by the Ottawa County Club at 830 D Street SE, Miami, emailing Garst at or calling the Club at 918-542-6325.

Garst said the Club does have the ability to provide online invoices.

Boxes hold a dozen hand-dipped berries and are priced at $15 each. Orders of 10 to 19 boxes are $12 each, and orders of 20 boxes or more are $10 each.

Bulk orders of 10 or more also get free delivery on Valentine's Day.

Orders are due by Feb. 12.

"It's really a win-win when you can get your Valentine's treats for a good cause and share them with your family and loved ones," said Garst.
