Three Republicans — David Bergstrom, Joan “Joni” Charette and David Rycroft — will square off on Tuesday, June 28 in the Oklahoma primary election for the State Senate District 1 seat.

Waiting in the wings is Democrat John L. Myers of Vinita.

They all are hoping to succeed Charles Wyrick, who could not seek re-election due to term limits.

Bergstrom is from Big Cabin, Charette from rural Afton and Rycroft is from Jay.

There will be three other local races on the June 28 ballots.

Brenda Ellis, Wayne Meeks and Robyn Mitchell are seeking to succeed Reba Sill as county clerk.

Democrats Derek Derwin and Mark Garrett square off in the race for sheriff. Republican Jeremy Floyd will go up against the winner in November.

Charley Arnold, Jimmy D. “Poncho” King and Chad Masterson are running for the District 2 county commission seat being vacated by Gary Wyrick.

Democrats Joshua Harris-Till and Paul E. Schiefelbein and Republicans Jarrin Jackson and incumbent Markwayne Mullin meet in the U.S. Representative District 2 races.

Robert T. Murphy and Dax Ewbank are seeking the nod among Libertarians for the U.S. Senate seat.

Runoff elections statewide are Tuesday, Aug. 23, and the general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
