MIAMI – The Will Rogers Middle School sixth- and seventh-grade boys basketball teams chalked up wins against Vinita here Monday night.

 

The sixth graders squeezed out a 29-28 decision while the seventh-grade boys rolled 36-11.

 

In the sixth-grade game, a turnover that led to a layup by Andrew Acupan created the winning margin for the Wardogs.

 

Vinita carried a 13-9 lead into the half.

 

The Wardogs held a 13-12 edge in the third quarter then outscored the visitors 7-3 in the final stanza.

 

Matthew Allen had a team-high 10 points, followed by Connor Womack with eight, Acupan with six and Ryan Hackett chipped in with five points.

 

In the seventh-grade game, the Wardogs turned an 11-2 first-quarter lead into a 27-2 halftime margin.

 

Vinita held a 6-3 edge in the third, but WRMS created the final margin with a 6-3 advantage in the fourth frame.

 

Jett Cheatham scored 11 points for the Dogs, who also got seven from Skyler Judd, four each from Luke Hackett and Clay McCormick and two each from Daivik Patel, Josh Thronebury, Anthony Yardy, Jacob Kennedy and Trenton Spunagle.
