FOYIL – The Welch boys chalked up their first win of the season, while the Lady Wildcats continued unbeaten after posting wins Friday night on the road against Foyil.
The Wildcats broke a 18-18 halftime tie with the Panthers with a 14-4 run in the third to go ahead, 32-22, entering the final period.
Welch's Buxton Turner hit six 3-pointer to lead all scorers with 20 points. Nolan Schaper, who had a trio of 3s, finished with 19 for the Wildcats.
The Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 16-9 lead as they went on for a 44-34 win over the Lady Panthers.
Hold a 26-21 margin at halftime, Foyil held the Lady Wildcats to four points in the third period as they closed the cap by three, 30-27.
Jaeli Jorgenson drill a 3-pointer and Apsen Wood scored four markers in the fourth as Welch closed out the game with a 14-7 run.
Three players scored in double figures for Welch. Wood and Hailey Haskell each popped in 11 points, while Olivia Chenoweth had 10.
The Welch boys and girls will be in action this week during the Kenneth Sooter Invitational basketball tournament.
