ADAIR - The Wyandotte girls took advantage of Haskell first-half turnovers to build a double-digit lead which the Lady Bears rode to the Class 3A Area III consolation bracket title here Saturday afternoon.
The 54-25 WHS win over the Lady Haymakers moves the Wyandotte girls into the Area tournament Thursday at Bixby. The Lady Bears will take on Keys in a 1:30 p.m. elimination game.
Keys is coming off a 54-44 loss to Verdigris in its regional championship game at Beggs Saturday night.
Against Haskell, the Wyandotte girls helped themselves to a 32-13 lead at the half after the Lady Haymakers turned the ball over 16 times the first half, fueling the Wyandotte lead.
WHS senior Alex Neal set the tone early after she started the game scoring the first eight points. Neal's effort gave the Lady Bears a 8-0 lead, which helped gain a 14-8 lead heading into the second period.
Haskell cut the Wyandotte lead to 14-11 at the 6:30 mark of the second before the Lady Bears ripped off an 18-2 run to finish the first half.
During the blitz, the WHS girls connected on three straight 3-point goals to boost the run. Amanda Stovall canned back-to-back treys before Jesse Stone found the range from beyond the arc to give the Lady Bears a 27-13 lead.
Stovall added two more steals and a pair of free throws the final 1:33 of the half to move the WHS lead to 19 points at the break.
Wyandotte (15-10) put the game on ice after a 12-2 run at the start of the third period gave the Wyandotte girls a 44-15 lead with 3:12 to play in the quarter.
Neal and Inman paced the scoring effort for the Lady Bears with both netting 14 in the win. Stovall added eight, while Stone and Kayla Oleman contributed seven points each towards the victory.
Vaness Harris was high scorer for the Lady Haymakers with eight.
