Claremore overcame a 4-1 deficit with a late-inning rally, then managed to eke out a 6-5 victory over Miami in an opening round game at an American Legion 3A baseball regional.

Miami and Skiatook played in an elimination game at noon Saturday, then the winner battled Claremore at 3 p.m.

An “if necessary” game will be today at 3 p.m.

The winner moves on to the state tournament.

Miami carried a 4-1 lead into the top of the sixth, when Claremore rallied for four runs.

The Spoonbills tied the game with a single run in the bottom of the seventh.

Brett Abell led off with a walk and scored on a two-out single by Ethan Wilson.

Miami loaded the bases when Jonathan Brice singled and Zach Clark walked.

However, Spencer Neal grounded out to short, ending the inning.

In the top of the eighth, Claremore's Matt Davis singled with one out. Justin Romaine added another base hit, then Steve Harmon flied out to right.

Third baseman Dylan Jordan drove in what would be the winning run with a single off reliever Spencer Neal.

Abell drew a two-out walk for Miami in the bottom of the eighth, but Nick Henson grounded out.
