Brett Abell struck out 13 and scattered six hits as Miami nailed down a 3-2 victory over Grove in an American Legion baseball game Tuesday night at Joe Pollock Field.

Post 147 (3-0) got all three of its runs in the third inning.

Joe Pilkinton led off with a walk, then Nick Jones singled. Abell singled but was eventually forced at second.

Nick Henson drove in the Spoonbills' first run with a single, then Keith Freeman delivered a RBI single.

Josh White made it 3-1 when he grounded out, allowing Henson to score.

Grove narrowed the gap to 3-2 with a run in the sixth on singles by Ryan Dodson and Corey Davenport and a two-out double by Jesse Hale.

Abell struck out the side in the top of the seventh to nail down the victory.

Grove got its first run in the first when Darrius Hopper doubled and eventually scored on a passed ball.

Post 147 left six runners stranded, with three of those at third.

In addition to the hits by Jones, Abell, Henson and Freeman, Pilkinton had a leadoff single in the first for Miami's only other hit.

C. Petty singled for Grove's only other hit against Abell.

Post 147 travels to Wagoner Friday night.
