GROVE - Sixteen of the best senior pool players in the four-state area, met in Grove to compete for the 9-Ball championship trophy.
Players were selected on the basis of their cumulative scores from previous 2008 tournaments.
Play consisted of a double elimination, race to five game matches. John Jennings of Bentonville, Ark., was the winner.
The tournament will be scheduled again next year around the first of July and hopefully when Grove Senior Center has room for two more tables. Completing a tournament in one day with only three tables is difficult and requires more hours than our seniors care to spend.
Placing second was Jim Peck of Joplin, Mo., with third place going to Will Winder of Grove. Bob Teetzel and Bud Johnson of Baxter Springs, Kan., placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
Other highlights of the tournament were pocketing the 9-ball on the break, thus winning the game, were Jennings, Peck and Bob Neil of Welch, and Winder, Pete Roberts of Grove, and Leonard Moffett of Joplin each had a run of 9 balls.
