Miami split its three white pool matches in the Mudville Duals wrestling tournament.
The Wardogs defeated Tahlequah, Bentonville, Ark., and Coffeyville, Kan., but lost to Piedmont, Independence, Kan., and Joplin, Mo.
“I am pretty pleased,” Miami coach Josh Bolinger said. “We’ve got some more matches to go, but so far, so good. We lost to Joplin, which is good, and to Piedmont, which is also pretty good. Piedmont and Joplin went down to the last match to decide their dual.”
Heading into the seventh round of pool competition Saturday, Joplin was on top, followed by Piedmont, Independence and MHS.
A fourth-place finish in the pool would place the Wardogs in the silver bracket.
Teams moved into bracketed competition, with the top four teams going to the gold bracket, the next four assigned to the silver bracket and the next four competing in the bronze bracket.
The final rounds of competition was held Saturday evening.
“Really I don’t think we’ve done that bad,” said Bolinger, who is in his first season as MHS coach. “I am happy with how we’ve wrestled so far. We’ve improved. I have seen a lot of improvement over the last two days from the guys.”
Other teams in the field are Caney, Kan., Grove, McDonald County, Mo., Owasso, Pryor and Webb City, Mo.
