Ten of last year's 11 champions will be back for the 65th annual Northeastern A&M High School Basketball Tournament that will be held Jan. 22-24, 2009.
The only team that claimed a title that won't return are the Tulsa Edison girls.
They went 3-0 in the Girls' Blue bracket.
Boys' champs returning are Springfield (Mo.) Central (Blue), Oklahoma Bible Academy (Silver), Foyil (Bronze), Welch (Red) and Riverview Bible Baptist Christian of Forsyth, Mo. (Gold).
Girls' champs who are back include Willard, Mo. (Gold), Roland (Silver), Afton (Bronze), Johnson County Westside, Mo. (White) and Welch (Red).
A total of 50 teams are entered in the tournament this year, 27 girls and 23 boys.
New to the tournament this year are the Guthrie girls.
The Lady Jays return just two starters from a team that finished 13-12 and reached the 5A area. The biggest hole coach Terry Carris is having to fill was the one created by the loss of all-stater Emily Lewis.
They've got some size - 5-10 sophomore Allyson Chadd and 5-10 senior Megan Smith.
Other girls' teams in the field are Enid, Central, Springfield Hillcrest, Grove, Miami, Tulsa Cascia Hall, Wyandotte, Commerce, Tulsa Lincoln Christian, Quapaw, Fairland, Oklahoma Bible, Foyil, Watts, Tulsa Wright Christian, Bartlesville Wesleyan, Bluejacket, Fayetteville (Ark.) Christian, Chetopa, Kan., White Oak and Tyro (Kan.) Christian.
In addition to the returning champs, other boys' teams entered include Miami, Grove, Roland, Diamond, Mo., Wyandotte, Commerce, Lincoln Christian, Quapaw, Fairland, Afton, Johnson County Westside, Watts, Wright Christian, Wesleyan, Bluejacket, Chetopa, Kan., White Oak and Tyro Christian.
