QUAPAW - Welch and Commerce chalked up shutout wins Wednesday during the first round of the Quapaw Tournament.

The Lady Wildcats, ranked fourth in Class A in the preseason, rolled to an 8-0 victory over Fairland.

Commerce routed Ketchum 10-0.

Also Tuesday, Vinita nipped Afton 4-2 in a game that saw the Lady Eagles compete with only eight players.

Wyandotte and Quapaw squared off in the late game.

Today's schedule includes Welch vs. Afton, 3:30 p.m.; Commerce vs. Wyandotte, 5 p.m.; Vinita vs. Fairland, 6:30 p.m., and Ketchum vs. Quapaw, 8 p.m.

The slate for the final day of pool play includes Afton vs. Fairland, 3:30 p.m.; Wyandotte vs. Ketchum, 5 p.m.; Welch vs. Vinita, 6:30 p.m., and Commerce vs. Quapaw, 8 p.m.

The seventh-place game will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by the fifth-place contest at 10:30 a.m. and the third place game at noon.

The championship will be settled at 1:30 p.m.

Welch 8, Fairland 0

Kalleigh Chrz turned in her second no-hitter in as many days for the Lady Wildcats.

She struck out eight and walked one against Fairland.

That was the Lady Owls' only baserunner.

Chrz fanned all 11 batters she faced in a pair of brief appearances Tuesday against South Coffeyville.

Welch jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning against the Lady Owls.

Ashley Marlow hit into a bases loaded fielder's choice, giving Welch it's first run.

Two errors on the play then cleared the bases.

Welch added another four runs in the third.

Katy McClurg and Emily Kelley had RBI singles.

The Lady Wildcats also got a run on a bases-loaded walk to Cheyenne Eckles and another scored when Martiah Armstrong grounded out.

Kelley and McClurg had two hits each while Jordan Amos chipped in with one.
