KANSAS, Okla. - Kansas swept a non-conference softball double-header from Afton here Tuesday, winning by 9-2 and 4-3 scores.

The Lady Comets got the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning with two out.

Each team scored a run in the first inning, then Afton went up 3-1 in the top of the third.

Kansas tied the game in the fourth, then got the game-winning run in the fifth.

Shelbie Van Pielt, Jacy Grimes, Darby Todd and Jessica Dry each had a single for the Lady Eagles.

Kansas did all of its damage in the opener in the first two innings.

The Lady Comets jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first then erupted for eight runs in the second frame, sending 13 batters to the plate.

Afton got its only runs in the fifth on a triple by Van Pielt and a single by Jakey Dobbs.

Van Pielt had a triple and single while Dobbs collected two singles for the Lady Eagles. Ashley Carroll and Nena Gibson added singles.

Afton travels to Oklahoma Union today, weather permitting.
