VINITA - Bring on Wagoner.
Miami completed pre-season preparation Thursday night with a scrimmage against Vinita.
“I felt good,” Miami head coach Chris Risenhoover said. “I called on them to be more physical up front and we were getting a push. Even though we didn't have any big-time run plays, everything was pretty consistent. We had hats on everybody throughout the night.
We executed better as far as schemes offensively. We moved some people up front.”
The Wardogs open the 2008 campaign Sept. 5 at home with former District 4A-3 rival Wagoner.
Miami scored twice in the dress rehearsal with the Hornets.
Trent Turner had a 5-yard run on the ninth play of the Dogs' first offensive series.
Then later, Turner lobbed a 45-yard pass to senior wide receiver Jordan Simons.
“We were more consistent with the ‘1s' on the defensive side,” Risenhoover said. “We played a lot better on the back end than we did last week (against Muskogee). We had some new faces out there from what we took to Muskogee.
“Having (Jeff) Meeks, (Grant) Longcrier and Josh White back on the field, we feel we're more physical up front,” Risenhoover said.
Longcrier, who missed part of the preseason with a leg injury, and James Pickens had interceptions.
“Vinita has some real good schemes that confuse you,” Risenhoover said. “Their offense had some kids who are good with the ball in their hands.
“It was a very competitive scrimmage.”
