CLAREMORE Miami picked up a benchmark win Thursday when the Lady Wardogs beat eighth-ranked Coweta 10-2 in the University of Tulsa Festival.

"We put it all together," Lady Wardog coach Lauren Dodson said. "We gave them a couple runs in the first inning, then Hayley (winning pitcher Hayley Hudson) shut them down."

After spotting the Lady Tigers (4-6) a 2-0 lead in the first inning, Miami (7-4) broke through in the fourth by scoring three times.

MHS added two more in the fifth and exploded for five more runs in the sixth.

"The win against Locust Grove (13-5 on Tuesday) gave us some confidence," Dodson said. "We really played with a lot of confidence today."

Hannah Chenoweth and Nicole Morris each went 3-for-4 for the Lady Wardogs while Tori Rowland and Mary Crosby were 2-for-4.

Hailey Hudson doubled and Taylor Fields and Kayla Chambers each had a single.

Hudson only struck out one, but she got 10 ground ball outs. She retired another six on fly balls.

"She kept them off balance," Dodson said.

The Lady Wardogs had only two errors in the game, Dodson said.
