OKLAHOMA CITY — It was Mother Nature 2, Region II Tournament 0 as steady rain forced another postponement of the championship game in the Women’s Division I Region II Tournament here Monday.

Two-time defending Region II champion and sixth-ranked Northeastern A&M was scheduled to face 13th-rated Seminole State College in the 5 p.m. title game.

But, a steady rain from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. forced the second delay in the last three days.

The double elimination tournament started with eight teams on Friday.

After Saturday’s second day was cancelled because of more than 4 inches of rain, the tournament resumed on Sunday with the field of teams whittled down to the top two seeds.

Coach Eric Iverson’s Lady Norse are 53-5 on the season after winning three games on Sunday.

“We’ve got several situations that make rescheduling these games difficult,” Iverson said. “First is the weather. It’s supposed to rain on Tuesday and even off and on the rest of the week.

“The second situation is that the ASA Hall of Fame is host to the Big XII Tournament, scheduled to start Thursday,” Iverson said. “So, the only date they could reschedule us here would be Saturday night.”

Iverson said NJCAA rules require all regional tournaments be completed by Saturday.

“So the window is closing fast,” Iverson said.

A couple of options are being explored with the title game being played Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Seminole State is the lone undefeated team remaining in the tournament. The Belles (49-10) defeated Connors State 4-1 in Sunday’s winner’s bracket finals.

Should NEO defeat Seminole, a second championship game would follow.

“We’re ranked higher than they are and have a better record,” Iverson said. “But, they haven’t lost in the tournament, so this championship has to be decided on a field.”
