PRESTON — Tevin Talton and Jon Paul Yeager accounted for 65 percent of Preston’s scoring during a 75-45 victory over Afton in the Class 2A Area III regional final here Saturday night.

Talton, a 6-2 sophomore, had a game high 25 points —including 18 in the second half — while Yeager, a 6-3 senior chipped in with 24 — 21 of that coming on seven 3-point goals.

The loss scissored an eight-game winning streak for the Eagles, who need three wins to reach the state tournament.

They face No. 4 Okarche Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Whitey Ford Fieldhouse in Bixby. Okarche was upset by Weleetka on Thursday but remained alive with a 78-49 win against Kiefer on Friday.

Preston led only 19-15 at the end of the first quarter, but used a run of nine straight points by Yeager — two on treys and one on a conventional 3-point play — to open up an 13-point lead.

Afton whittled the deficit back to nine on a short jumper and two free throws by Ryan Markes.

The Pirates carried a 10-point lead into the half 35-25), then they took charge with a 23-11 margin in the third quarter.

Talton got Porter’s first 10 points of the final stanza, pushing the lead to 25. His spree came as part of a 10-2 run over the final four minutes of play.

Seniors Magnum Mustain and Shawn Free had 16 points each for the Eagles. Ryan Markes was limited to eight points.
