QUAPAW - Quapaw's Lady Wildcats are snakebit.

Welch got what proved to be the winning run in the third inning then held on to claim a 2-1 victory over Quapaw in a Lucky 7 Conference softball game here Thursday.

The loss was the fifth straight one-run decision for Quapaw while Welch remains unbeaten.

Welch travels to Oaks today for a festival that includes Colcord. Quapaw also is on the road today, traveling to Oklahoma Union.

Welch senior Kalleigh Chrz continued her stellar pitching, fanning a season-high 16. She walked two and allowed only one hit - a second-inning single by Samantha Jiminez.

Welch jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Ashley Marlow led off with a single She stole second and scored when a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Amos was misplayed.

The Welch Lady Cats got their insurance run in the third. Chrz tripled with one out and scored on a base hit by Kirsten Leppla.

Quapaw made things interesting in the seventh.

Amanda Shallenberger reached on an error. Kelsey Reeves reached on a fielder's choice. Shallenberger stole third and scored on an error.

Welch lost a run at home in the first, second and fifth.

In the first, Amos was cut down trying to score on a single by Leppla.

Then in the second, Sierra Hankins walked with one out, but was thrown out attempting to steal home.

Cheyenne Eckles had a one-out single in the fifth, but again was caught stealing home.

Leppla had two singles for Welch, which also got one hit each from Marlow, Chrz, Erin Sneddin and Eckles.

Cheyenne Bass suffered the loss. She struck out four and walked one.
