INDEPENDENCE, Kan. — A goal by sophomore mid-fielder Michelle Chamblee during a 10-minute overtime period carried the Independence (Kan.) Community College Lady Pirates to a 2-1 victory over the Northeastern A&M Lady Norse Friday afternoon during a soccer match on the Lady Pirates field.

With the loss, coach Lisa Bell’s Lady Norse are 1-5 on the season while the Lady Pirates stand 1-5 on the year.

“We had to make this trip without four players that are injured,” Bell said. “So, not only did that adversely affect our depth, but more importantly, I had to play some girls out of position. They played hard, but we just didn’t make the shots.”

NEO’s only point came midway through the second half on a goal by freshman forward Jen Mayson of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

The Lady Norse open play in Region II on Thursday by hosting the Lady Mavericks of Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa at 2 p.m. in the first of three straight matches at home.
