AFTON - Afton won a pair of Lucky 7 Conference basketball games from Wyandotte here Friday night.

The Lady Eagles limited Wyandotte to 17 points during a 45-17 victory.

Then in the boys' game, Afton coasted to a 59-42 decision.

Afton's girls jumped out to a 15-5 lead in the first quarter then rolled into the break with a 21-12 margin.

The Lady Eagles continued to pull away in the third quarter thanks to an 8-2 edge, then nailed down the win by outscoring WHS 16-3 over the last eight minutes.

“I thought, defensively, for us to hold that group to 17 points was something because those girls can really shoot the ball,” Afton coach Ronnie Maple said. “That's something we've been talking about the past few weeks - making sure we get to their shooters and close them out and recover.”

Macy Gibson and Natasha Larsen scored 10 points each to lead the scoring for Afton.

Wyandotte picked up seven points from Kayla Oleman and five from Abbi Munson.

“I was really proud of the girls tonight for their defensive play and their defensive effort,” Maple said. “They played a good game and I was really proud of them.”

In the boys' game, Afton led 16-7 after the opening frame, but saw its lead shrink to 26-20 by intermission.

The Bears held a 12-11 edge in the third period but Afton held on for the win by scoring 22 points in the final stanza.

Ryan Markes headed up the Eagles' scoring with 20 points. He was joined in double figures by Coy Crane and Shawn Free with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Dakota Spark scored 16 points and Kurtis Young chipped in with 10 for the Bears.
