GROVE – Big days from the top and bottom of the order powered the Grove Lady Red to a 10-0 win over Miami in five innings Monday afternoon at Grove High School.
Leadoff hitter Ashleigh Tramel's grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning finished off the run rule win.
Tramel finished the day with three hits in four at-bats, driving in five while scoring three of her own. Tramel also added two stolen bases for good measure, one of four steals on the day for Grove (6-2).
The Lady Red also got three hits from Megan Freeman. Batting in the ninth spot in the lineup, the senior second baseman had an RBI double in the second inning and added another RBI with a single in the bottom of the fourth inning that gave Grove a 4-0 lead at the time.
"I was really pleased with our at-bats," Grove head coach Jeremy Collins said. "I thought, one through nine, our lineup produced."
The Lady Red blew the game open in the fourth inning, with Freeman then Tramel getting RBI hits in a three-run inning that doubled Grove's lead to 6-0. After being overly aggressive early, the Lady Red eventually learned to stay back against Miami pitcher Hayley Hudson's variety of off-speed pitches.
As dominant as the Grove bats were, pitcher Jessie Walker was just as overpowering, holding the Lady Wardogs to one hit, a first inning single, while striking out nine.
Miami is at Locust Grove on Tuesday.
