QUAPAW - A seven-run third inning helped Quapaw hold the upper hand in a 15-7 baseball slugfest against Afton here Thursday afternoon.

The teams combined for 22 hits, six for extra bases.

There were four lead changes in the first two innings, Afton leading 2-0 in the top of the first only to have the Wildcats score three times in their first at-bat.

The Eagles went back on top 4-3 in the top of the second, but Quapaw took the lead for good when it scored five times in its half of the second.

A two-run single by Jason Dixon and back-to-back triples by Landon Corbus and Justin King keyed the Cats' big inning.

Eighteen batters went to the plate during the third inning for Quapaw, which is starting eight freshmen and one junior.

Dixon had a two-run single while Beau Kibel, Holmes and Bailey Lasiter added RBI singles.

Corbus also drove in a run with a ground ball.

The 12-hit Quapaw attack included two triples by King, a double and single by Corbus and two singles each from Dixon and Kibel.

Lasiter, Jordan Mate, Tyler Estep and Holmes each had a single.

Dusty Henry and Zach Dotson had a double and single each for the Eagles. Brennon Fuser and Eric Wilmoth had two singles each.

Trevor Maupin tripled and Brooks Victor added a single for Afton.

Afton hosts Welch on Friday.

Quapaw is idle until Wednesday when it begins play in the Ketchum Tournament.
