BLUEJACKET — Shelbie VanPielt pumped in 31 points to lead the Afton girls to a 54-47 victory over Bluejacket here Tuesday night in Lucky 7 Conference play.

Afton also claimed a 51-33 decision in the boys’ game.

VanPielt scored 10 of Afton’s first 13 points, helping the Lady Eagles open up a 13-8 lead. She came back with five in the second quarter, seven in the third and a final 10 in the fourth.

VanPielt was 12-of-13 at the free throw line.

Afton was up 26-18 at intermission and carried a 41-30 advantage into the final stanza.

Lauren Ayres had 20 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out in the third quarter.

She was joined in double figures by Cheyanne Hall with 14.

Freshman point guard Sam Williams had six points, 11 assists, six steals and eight rebounds for the Lady Chieftains.

Joining VanPielt in double figures for Afton was Jacy Grimes with 14 points.

In the boys’ game, Afton held an 11-6 edge in the second quarter to open up a 17-13 lead at the half.

The Eagles went on to outscore Bluejacket 17-12 and 16-8 over the final two quarters.

Sam Shepard had 14 points, Brennon Fuser added 13 and Dusty Henry contributed 10 to the Afton attack.

Dylan Woods led the Chieftains with 14 points. He drained four 3-point goals.
