A 17-4 run in the final five minutes of the third quarter helped Pryor rally for a 50-41 victory over Miami’s girls in a Verdigris Valley Conference basketball game at the Miami Activity Center.
“We looked like we had been off for 20-some days,” Miami coach Brian Busby said. “What was shocking to me was when we got going, our offense didn’t look like it had been on Christmas break. Our defense was. That is something you don’t think you lose as much over a break, because you drill and drill and drill. It’s game situation. Shooting is not game situation.”
The Lady Wardogs had taken a 23-18 lead with 5:42 left in the third, but Pryor was on top 33-27 heading into the final stanza.
Pryor then held a 17-14 edge down the stretch to claim the victory.
Bekah Stewart scored 10 points and Courtnei Young added nine for the Lady Wardogs. Haiden Rowland chipped in with eight.
“I thought we executed pretty well on the offensive end,” Busby said. “I was very proud of them. If we can just tie that defense in with it, we might have something going.”
The Lady Wardogs travel to Locust Grove Friday.
