COFFEYVILLE, Kan. Seeking to end the first half of the regular season on a winning note, Northeastern A&M's Golden Norsemen face Highland (Kan.) Community College today at 11 a.m. in the final round of the Jayhawk Shoot-Out in Coffeyville's Nellis Hall west gymnasium.

Coach Dustin Grover's Golden Norse (9-5) are caught in a two-game losing streak following an 82-61 loss Friday to Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College in the first game of the Shoot-Out.

"We jumped out to a 10-2 lead and then just went flat," Grover said. "We weren't playing with any intensity or emotion. We just went through the motions."

Coach Patrick Nee's Highland Scotties dropped a 77-71 decision to Colby, Kan., Saturday morning in the opening round of the Shoot-Out. The Scotties enter today's game with a 6-4 season record.

Highland features five players that averaging in double figures scoring.

Veteran guard Brandon Coleman (6-2 of Kansas City, Mo.) leads the Scotties with a 17.3 scoring average with 27 assists and 20 steals.

Freshman forward Darren Six (6-4 of Phoenix, Ariz.) is averaging 17 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

Sophomore point-guard Eddie Gray (5-10 of Cincinnati, Ohio) leads the Scotties with 44 assists and 11 steals while averaging 14.9 points.

Freshman guard Jaurrice Maag-Downing (6-2, of Atchison, Kan.) leads Highland with an 8.6 rebounding average while scoring 11.8 points per game.

Field goals by Raphael Brown, Jamell Cormier, Carlos Dos Santos, Phillipe Martin and Case Elliott allowed the Golden Norse to build a 10-2 lead against Fort Scott (4-4) in the first five minutes.

Two 3-point field goals each by Kolbe Joens and Kurklin Bohanon, along with layups by Darrell Blanton, Bryce Kemp and Ramell Taylor, rallied the Greyhounds to a 20-12 lead midway through the first half.

After Joens canned another 3-pointer for Fort Scott, the Golden Norse received layups by Martin and Chaz Davis to create a 23-16 deficit at the 7:52 juncture.

Six points by Blanton, along with four each from Joens and Bohanon, allowed Fort Scott to construct a 37-28 margin at halftime.

Getting only two points from their post players, the Golden Norsemen were outscored 45-33 during the second half.

Fort Scott outscored NEO 30-6 from 3-point range and 24-9 at the free throw line to seal the victory.

Martin led the Golden Norse with 16 points while Davis added 11.

The Golden Norsemen hit 25 of 67 (37 percent) from the field, including only 2 of 15 from the 3-point arch. NEO sank 9 of 14 (64 percent) at the free throw line.

Blanton scored 21 points to lead the Greyhounds along with 16 from Bohanon and 13 from Joens.

Fort Scott connected on 24 of 52 (46 percent) from the field, including 10 of 20 from 3-point range, and 24 of 30 (80 percent) at the line.

Taylor grabbed eight rebounds to give Fort Scott a 41-33 edge on the boards. Martin and Davis combined for nine rebounds each to lead NEO.
