AFTON Ė Afton Junior High improved to 4-0 with a 52-18 victory over the Joplin St. Peterís Warriors Tuesday night.

The Warriors broke out to a 6-0 lead on a 2-yard TD run, capping a time-consuming drive.

However, Afton countered with a 75-yard kickoff return by Gabe Mustain. Garrett Gaines added the two-point conversion.

A botched punt that led to the tackle of the ball carrier by Gaines at the 15-yard line set up the Eaglesí second score. On the first play from scrimmage, Gaines broke loose for a touchdown. Mustainís conversion run gave Afton a 16-6 advantage.

Gaines added a 40-yard touchdown late in the half. The conversion run by Mustain made it 24-6.

An interception by Mustain, his second of the half, at the Afton 10 was returned to the St. Peterísí 40 as time expired.

Gaines returned the second-half kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.

After a touchdown by the Warriors, Afton countered with a 40-yard run by Gaines. Zach Henry caught a pass for the conversion, bumping the lead to 38-12.

A fumble recovery by Matthew Walker at the Afton 30-yard line set up the Eaglesí sixth TD, a 70-yard by Gaines.

The Warriorsí final score came on a 70-yard romp, narrowing Aftonís lead to 44-18.

The final touchdown of the game came on a 55-yard run by Mustain. He also ran the conversion.
