WELCH - Commerce moved into the championship game of the Welch tournament with a pair of pool play wins

The Lady Tigers beat Oklahoma Union 6-2 then routed Claremore Christian 11-0 to improve to 3-0 in the White Division.

They had rolled to a 10-1 win over Ketchum on Wednesday.

CHS will play in Saturday's 1:30 p.m. championship game.

“It feels good,” Commerce coach Jerry Myers said. “This is the first time we've gone to the tournament.”

Ketchum finished second in the White Division by posting a 5-3 win over Oklahoma Union and a 13-0 win over Claremore Christian in other games Thursday.

Today's schedule finds Welch facing defending champ Verdigris at 2:30 p.m., followed by Oklahoma Union vs. Claremore Christian at 4 p.m.; Verdigris vs. South Coffeyville at 5:30 p.m., and Verdigris vs. Afton at 7 p.m.

The seventh-place game will be Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by the consolation finals at 10:30 a.m. and the third-place game at noon.

“Our pitching is improved,” Myers said. “We're cutting down on the number of walks. Defensively, we're making plays. We're still not quite where we want to be in the outfield, but we're working at it. The Watson girls (Mandy and Courtney) the last three or four games have really been in a zone.”

The Lady Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning against Oklahoma Union and coasted.

OU got both of its runs in the top of the fourth, then CHS picked up its final tally in its half of the fourth.

Kourtney Reading collected a double and single. She also scored a run.

Courtney Watson had two singles, one RBI and she scored a run. Mandy Watson added a single while driving in two runs.

Kamesha Cook collected two singles, an RBI and she scored a run.

Jacey Knight and Macy North each had a single. North drove in a run.

Barth drove in both of Oklahoma Union's runs with a double.

Claremore Christian 0

Alysia Leonard had a perfect game for the Lady Tigers. She struck out six of the nine batters she faced.

Commerce broke out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning, got two runs in the second and a final run in the third.

Knight, Reading, Mandy Watson and Courtney Watson each had a double while Kendra Hensley, North and Shaylee Smith added singles.

Reading drove in two runs while Mandy Watson, Courtney Watson, North and Smith each had one RBI.

Knight and Courtney Watson each scored twice while Reading, Mandy Watson, Hensley, North and Smith scored once.

Commerce 10, Ketchum 1

A six-run rally in the second helped the Lady Tigers take charge in their tournament opener Wednesday.

Commerce had led only 1-0 after the first inning. Ketchum came back to tie the game in the top of the second.

The Lady Tigers sent 12 batters to the plate during their six-run rally.

A two-run single by Mandy Watson was the key blow, but Reading also drove in a run with a single and Knight picked up an RBI with a bases-loaded walk. CHS benefited from three errors by the Lady Warriors.

Commerce also picked up two runs in the third and tacked on a final tally in the fourth, when the game was halted by the run rule.

Reading had a single and double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Knight had a triple, one RBI and scored three times. Mandy Watson had a double and two RBIs. Adrienne Herrera chipped in with a single, one run and two RBIs.

Courtney Watson, Smith, Candace Ball and Cook added singles.

Christian Tonikha had a double and single for the Lady Warriors, who also got two singles from Sam Kester. Maddy Forbis and Sam Cambell each had a single.
