WELCH - Two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning helped Welch slip past Oklahoma Union 9-8 in a high school baseball game here.

"This was a great game for us," Welch coach Billy Willard said. "We made a few mistakes, but fought back with a game-winning rally.

Garrett Nair singled home Asa Chenoweth with the tying and Casey Pendergraft with the winning run for the Cats (3-3).

Oklahoma Union had tied the game at 8-8 with a run in the fifth.

The Wildcats led 4-3 after the first inning, but Oklahoma Union rallied for four runs in the third.

Welch came back with a single run in the third, then scored twice in the fourth.

While Nair drove in the winning run, he also picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief.

Starter Mike Schultz threw the first five, yielding eight runs. He struck out two and walked three while hitting one batter.

Nair had a pair of singles, a sacrifice and two RBIs.

Chenoweth added a double and home run. He scored three times, walked once and drove in two runs.

Schultz had a double and single with a stolen base and two runs scored.

Welch earned a split with the Collinsville JV Saturday, losing the opener 6-4 before taking the nightcap 9-8.

Welch hosts Ketchum Thursday and Afton on Friday.
