Volunteers are one thing that has helped make the Buffalo Run Casino Classic one of the favorite stops on the NGA Hooters Tour.

Two areas in which the community can become involved and support this event are to volunteer to host one of the NGA professional golfers or be an on-course volunteer.

The fifth annual Buffalo Run Casino Classic will be held June 21-24 at the Peoria Ridge Golf Course.

“Many of the golfers playing on the tour would prefer to enjoy meeting a local family and sharing their home during tournament rather than stay in a hotel,” tournament coordinator Annette Black said.

The only requirement of the host family is to provide a private room and bathroom for the player. Meals are not expected to be provided by the host.

John Froman, chief of the Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma, and his family have hosted players each of the last four years. “These young men are very pleasant and appreciative,” Froman said. “Who knows, the next John Daly or Zach Johnson might have been a guest in your home!”

Persons wishing to serve as a host family should call Froman at 540-4155.

Also, on-course volunteers are needed to fulfill a number of responsibilities from starters, scorers, spotters, and shuttle drivers to making sure there is plenty of water on course for the Pros and cleaning trash from the course at the end of the day.

Regardless of age or knowledge, anyone can contribute to the tournament's success, Black said.

Volunteers have the opportunity to indicate their first, second and third choices of duties, and assignments will be made on a first-come, first-served basis.

Volunteers will receive an official tournament golf shirt and an invitation to the volunteer party.

“Our volunteers over the past four years have helped make the Buffalo Run Casino Classic a favorite among the NGA Hooters Tour professionals and staff,” Black said.

Residents of the tri-state area are encouraged to volunteer for the 2007 tournament.

Volunteer information is also available at the Peoria Ridge Golf Course pro shop and other area golf course pro shops.

“Volunteering is a great way to experience the game of golf,” Black said. “These professional golfers are serious about their game and achieving success. We invite the community to get involved by becoming a member of our volunteer team.”

Each year a team of over 30 volunteers donates their time and energy to ensure the success of the tournament.

The 13th Judicial District Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program is the charitable beneficiary of the 2007 Buffalo Run Casino Classic.

CASA is a group of volunteers committed to “making a difference” in the life of abused or neglected children and tournament organizers hope people in Miami and the surrounding area will volunteer their time to this event in support of their efforts.

The NGA/Hooters Tour is the third largest men's 72-hole professional golf tour in the country behind the PGA and Nationwide Tours.

The Buffalo Run Casino Classic is hosted by Buffalo Run Casino and Peoria Ridge Golf Course and presented by Video Gaming Technologies, C2 Gaming, LLC and Multimedia Games, Inc. Supporting sponsors for the event are Welch State Bank, Gulfco, IGT and Arvest Bank.
