VINITA ó Miami coach JohnCarl Morgan sensed something was wrong, even on the bus ride to Tuesday nightís Verdigris Valley Conference game against Vinita.
"We were not focused on the bus," he said.
The Lady Wardogs fell behind 16-5 in the first quarter and was unable to make up the difference during a 53-37 loss here.†
"In the second half, we did all right," Morgan said. "But in the first half we just had too many mistakes."
It took the Lady Wardogs 6:27 to get their first points, a bucket from inside by Courtnei Young. But Vinita had already rolled out to an 11-0 advantage.
A free throw by Nikki Mullin at 1:45 of the second quarter left the Lady Hornets with a 23-10 edge, but they closed out the half with a 7-0 run to make it 30-10 at the break.
Vinita outscored MHS 13-10 in the third quarter, but the Lady Wardogs held a 17-11 margin over the final seven minutes to create the final margin.

The Lady Hornets countered with a short jumper by Jessica Hoodenpyle and a pair of free throws from Caitlyn Spurgeon to push the lead back to 19 with 2:01 left.
